Obvious Dad will be holding auditions for OutWord: LGBTQ+ Reading Series!

DATE: Thursday, June 12 @ 7:00 PM (no callbacks)

LOCATION: ClearStory Arts (1673 S Holtzclaw Ave, 37404)

DETAILS: Please prepare a memorized monologue from a contemporary play (written after 2010). It should be about one minute in length, but no longer than 1:30. Choose something that speaks to you and gives us a sense of your voice and presence.

NOTE: You must be 18 years of age at the time of rehearsals to be cast in our shows.

ABOUT THE CASTING PROCESS: We’re casting approximately 20 roles across four staged readings of contemporary LGBTQ+ plays. We aren’t auditioning for specific characters—directors will cast based on auditions and availability. The commitment is low (just a few rehearsals and one performance per reading), and we’ll work closely with you to make it manageable and fun.

This is a paid opportunity, and we encourage actors of all identities, backgrounds, and experience levels to audition. The roles span an extremely diverse range of voices, experiences, and expressions, and we’re committed to inclusive, community-rooted casting.

WHY OUTWORD?

OutWord is a new LGBTQ+ play reading series produced by Obvious Dad in partnership with ClearStory Arts and the Chattanooga Queer Empowerment Collective. It’s about uplifting bold queer stories and voices—with joy, complexity, and creativity at the center.

WHY NOW?

Obvious Dad is back—and we’re kicking off with a project that centers our mission of making bold, professional theatre that reflects the richness of our Community. We hope you’ll join us.
